What do you choose? Sometimes there's so much choice, and fashion trends change regularly. Bamboo is increasingly found in clothing, but what are the advantages? We'd be happy to advise you in our Blog. Whatever you choose, good underwear remains the foundation of your day. Nothing is as annoying as ill-fitting underwear.

Cotton or bamboo boxer shorts

When choosing the perfect boxer shorts, the fabric plays a crucial role. Each fabric has its pros and cons. But what is the best underwear made of? Cotton underwear has been a popular choice for years due to its breathable and soft properties. Cotton boxer shorts are light and airy, absorb moisture well, and are very comfortable to wear. A popular 'newcomer' is bamboo boxer shorts. Not only a sustainable alternative - but also a joy to wear. Bamboo has a silky-soft texture that provides extra comfort!

Bamboo vs cotton

Bamboo underwear has snuck into the world of boxer shorts. But what makes this fabric so special compared to cotton boxer shorts? This has to do with the differences between the bamboo plant and the cotton plant. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world and can grow in very diverse climates and conditions. Cotton plants grow much slower and require a specific climate. They need much more water and must be sprayed with pesticides to combat pests and diseases. Bamboo is naturally resistant to these and hardly needs any water. This makes bamboo's ecological footprint many times smaller than cotton. In addition, Bolas Bamboo is 95% bamboo and 5% elastane. This is in contrast to some other brands which choose 65% bamboo and 35% elastane. Bolas's bamboo boxer shorts are also a bit longer than the regular basic collection.

Are bamboo boxer shorts sustainable?

Bamboo scores better than cotton on almost all elements of the product cycle. It grows quickly and naturally, does not need to be treated with pesticides, and yields almost ten times as much per square meter as cotton. Because it is a grass, it also does not need to be replanted after harvesting. Processing the plant into fabric can be done via a sustainable, mechanical process, but this is often still done via a viscose process. This involves harmful chemicals, but fortunately, efforts are being made to make this process more sustainable as well. Although the processing of bamboo can still be improved, bamboo underwear is indeed a more sustainable choice than cotton underwear.

Pros and cons of bamboo underwear

The advantages of bamboo boxer shorts are almost endless - and that explains why everyone is a big fan. Besides being a more sustainable choice than, for example, cotton, it is also:

  • Silky soft
  • Antibacterial action
  • Always fresh
  • Temperature-regulating
  • More expensive than cotton
  • Can absorb less moisture

Pros and cons of cotton underwear

Cotton boxer shorts are still very popular, and for good reason. In addition to cotton being very breathable and able to withstand a beating, it is also:

  • Soft and comfortable
  • Very strong and durable
  • Cheaper than bamboo
  • Prevents skin irritation
  • - Environmental impact is higher than with bamboo
  • - Prone to creasing and shrinking
