Behind the Scenes with Bolas Athlete Léon Mak

Behind the scenes with Bolas Athlete Léon Mak

I can tell you, life as a top athlete is a unique rollercoaster! In the athletics world, the summer season has already started a few weeks ago, and I'm training hard every day to prove myself on the battlefield again, but it's not without its challenges.
In recent months, I've had to adapt my training significantly due to a nagging hamstring injury that has lasted longer than originally expected. This meant I had to do a lot of running training on a special bike (a wattbike), and I've had to postpone my season start slightly.

However, it's good to realize that this is inherent to elite sports and therefore part of the package (my previous coach once said: 'it's part of the job YOU signed up for'). We average 10 training sessions a week and logically push boundaries to get a little better every day.

I've noticed that things have been much better in recent weeks, and that's why I'm starting my season this coming weekend in Belgium as preparation for the Dutch National Decathlon Championships on July 29th in Breda. The past few months have taught me to be patient and to make the most of every day. In elite sports, it's important to think in processes; I have big goals, and those take time.

I'll keep you updated via this blog!
